Introduction to Yoga for Trauma Treatment

What are the first words that come to mind when you think about yoga?

If you—or your clients—aren’t familiar with this ancient practice, phrases like “difficult exercise,” “exclusively for flexible people” or “it’s not for me” might pop up.

But the truth is, if you can breathe, you can do yoga. Mounting scientific evidence proves that simple yoga moves and breathwork that are accessible to everyone—even people in wheelchairs—can help calm the nervous system and bring people into the present. This is especially helpful in treating your trauma clients, because they need help discharging the trauma that’s stored in the body.

Watch as Irina Diyankova, PhD, RYT-200 reveals how she uses yoga in her practice, and how you can do the same to help clients break free from trauma.
