Description

Postural dysfunction is more than just poor alignment—it’s a multifactorial challenge influenced by weakness, muscle imbalances, and habits. Discover how poor posture triggers a biomechanical cascade that impacts pain, balance, breathing, and overall function—and learn proven strategies to address it effectively.

This course provides you with the tools to uncover the root causes of hyperkyphosis, helping you differentiate between structural limitations and fixable issues. You’ll learn how to identify hyperkyphosis early using objective tools like digital goniometers and inclinometers and track measurable progress throughout treatment.

Through evidence-based techniques, you’ll explore effective ways to reduce pain without over-reliance on passive modalities, while addressing muscle imbalances to restore alignment and mobility. Leave with the confidence to create targeted, actionable treatment plans that transform posture and quality of life in as few as 8 sessions.

Objectives

  1. Evaluate the impact of hyperkyphosis on functional mobility and independence using standardized assessments such as inclinometry and digital goniometry, and correlate findings to quality-of-life metrics, including balance and fall risk.
  2. Design and implement individualized intervention plans that integrate evidence-based techniques, such as NASM and Sahrmann corrective exercises, to restore thoracic mobility and improve core strength, leading to measurable improvements in functional tasks like ADL’s, gait and transfers.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to reduce dysfunctional posture and associated symptoms by applying targeted postural correction strategies, achieving documented improvements in patient outcomes, including TUG test performance, pain levels, and pulmonary function.

Outline

Posture Matters: Unlocking Pain-Free Movement and Functional Independence

How Postural Dysfunction Impacts EVERYTHING

  • How hyperkyphosis contributes to chronic pain, reduced pulmonary function, and mobility limitations
  • Ripple effects of dysfunctional posture on balance, fall risk, and overall quality of life
  • Connect the dots: See how poor posture impacts biomechanics, occupational tasks, and daily activities

Assessment: Spot Dysfunctional Posture in Minutes

  • Master standardized tools (goniometers, inclinometers) to accurately measure kyphosis and posture
  • Gain hands-on experience with reliable techniques to identify thoracic misalignment and pelvic tilt
  • Analyze muscle imbalances: shortened iliopsoas, weakened extensors, and postural compensations common in aging patients

Proven Methods to Efficiently and Effectively Correct Posture

  • Go beyond stretching with evidence-based strategies that combine inhibition, lengthening, activation, and integration of key muscle groups
  • Implement CRAC techniques and advanced corrective exercises such as thoracic rotations, modified cobras, and pelvic "teeter-totter" drills
  • Explore the NASM framework and Sahrmann corrective exercises to achieve sustainable improvements in thoracic mobility, core strength, and alignment

Get in Action with Confidence: Case Studies to Put it All Together

  • Watch real-world examples of how these techniques transform patient outcomes
  • See how just 8 sessions can dramatically reduce hyperkyphosis and restore function
  • Build a treatment plan that integrates seamlessly into your current practice
  • Witness the impact of targeted interventions on metrics like TUG scores, QOL outcomes, and functional independence
