Description

Gaslighting is a covert form of psychological manipulation that causes individuals—often women—to question their own memory, perception, and sanity. It can occur in intimate partnerships, family systems, workplaces, friendships, and even clinical or institutional relationships. The resulting erosion of self-trust and identity often manifests as anxiety, dysregulation, and chronic self-doubt.

In this 60-minute session, clinicians will learn how to accurately identify gaslighting dynamics across various relational contexts and understand the neurobiological imprint left on the body and nervous system. Through a trauma-informed and somatic lens, participants will explore how gaslighting disrupts safety cues, attachment patterns, and self-concept, and how to help clients rebuild internal trust and a regulated sense of self.

The session will introduce a step-by-step plan for identifying and recovering from gaslighting that can be psychoeducationally shared with clients. Clinicians will walk away with practical language, assessment considerations, and brief, evidence-informed interventions suitable for short-term or integrative care settings. This session empowers attendees to name the invisible, validate survivors’ experiences, and guide women toward restoring balance, autonomy, and self-belief.

  2. Summarize core psychological and behavioral features of gaslighting across three common relational contexts (e.g., intimate, familial, workplace), including its impact on autonomy, identity, and dependency.
  3. Interpret the neurobiological and emotional effects of gaslighting on the nervous system and a three-phase recovery framework with evidence-informed interventions for regulation and identity coherence.
