Additionally, the session will highlight effective collaboration strategies within an integrative care model, ensuring comprehensive and compassionate care for elderly patients. This presentation is an essential resource for healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing their geriatric practice and improving patient outcomes. What you can expect during this enlightening session...

A Closer Look at the Geriatric Giants

We begin our journey by shining a spotlight on the formidable geriatric giants: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Sepsis, and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). These conditions are prevalent among the elderly and pose significant challenges for healthcare providers. We will explore their prevalence, impact on the aging population, and the unique management challenges they present. Through in-depth analysis and real-world case studies, we aim to equip you with practical insights and innovative treatment strategies.

Examining Confounding Variables

Next, we will navigate the complex landscape of confounding variables that often complicate patient care. From the burgeoning use of marijuana and the persistent challenge of tobacco addiction to the cautious administration of benzodiazepines, we will examine the intricate balance required in managing these factors. The session will also address the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19 on the elderly and those with comorbid conditions. Additionally, we will delve into the issues of undernutrition, the hidden dangers of over-the-counter products, and the powerful influence of direct-to-consumer marketing. This segment aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how these variables intersect with patient health and treatment outcomes.

The Psychosocial Approach

In the final segment, we will adopt a psychosocial lens to explore the human side of patient care. We will discuss the critical aspect of decision-making capacity, ensuring that patients are empowered to make informed choices about their health. The ethical conundrums amidst this fragile landscape of our current healthcare systems will be scrutinized, highlighting both their strengths and areas for improvement. Effective interdisciplinary communication will be emphasized cornerstone of optimal patient care, and we will showcase the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach through engaging case studies and best practices.

Prepare to be engaged, informed, and inspired as we explore the complexities of patient care in this comprehensive round table discussion. Whether you're a seasoned healthcare provider or new to the field, this session promises to enrich your understanding and enhance your approach to managing the most challenging patient cases.

Kiplee Bell, MD, PA Related seminars and products

Kiplee Bell MD, PA, is a practicing physician, international keynote speaker, author, and founder of a multi-brand healthcare enterprise built at the intersection of clinical medicine, caregiving, and care leadership. She is the Founder and CEO of Impactful Care®, an innovative primary care and house-call practice, and the companion brands Impactful Caregiving® and Impactful Concierge, which together serve older adults, medically complex patients, and the caregivers who stand beside them.

Dr. Bell practices in parallel across two clinical environments rarely held by one clinician: emergency medicine within a major regional health system and longitudinal primary care in her own practice. That dual vantage point - seeing both the decisions primary care clinicians make for older adults, and the acute needs that surface in the emergency department - shape every piece of clinical education she delivers. Her teaching is not theoretical. It is drawn from what happens at 3:00 AM in the ED and the office visit that took place at 3:00 PM.

She is the host of CAREPOD, a podcast focusing on the care economy, caregiving, and clinical leadership, and the author of The Work of My Mother's Hands: A Caregiver's Journey, a widely read book that reframes caregiving to shift the experience away from that of a private burden. Additionally, Dr. Bell is the founder of the philanthropic entity, Kevin John McAleese Foundation, and the architect of CareCab®, a medical-model nonprofit transport initiative serving older adults and children.
