Irene Okoronkwo, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CCHP-MH
Irene Okoronkwo, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CCHP-MH, has extensive experiences treating patients with mental illness, across a variety of settings. Currently, she is employed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for a Texas jail.
While working in correctional health medicine as a registered nurse, she earned her Family Nurse Practitioner. Her clinical experience was primarily at nurse practitioner owned clinics working with vulnerable children and adults. After obtaining her FNP she worked not only with high-risk adults with depression, bipolar and psychotic disorders, her experiences expanded as she began working at the busiest urgent care center in Dallas, TX.
Irene pursued further education, recently completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, concurrently with her postmaster’s certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She is founder/owner of Obtaining Balance in All AveNues, which is a motivational speaking company with the goal to encourage mental health awareness and academic success throughout communities.
Dr. Okoronkwo’s commitment to her specialty is demonstrated through active memberships with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, the International Nurses Society on Addictions, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Senior Director of Emmanuel’s Village Builders- a non-profit organization. She is a Certified Correctional Health Professional and maintains certification in mental health corrections. Her expertise and passion have been sought both as a nationwide presenter and published author.
